What is a claw clip?
Claw clips are hair accessories that we use to secure and style our hair. They typically have prongs, which are colloquially referred to as claws, teeth or legs. This is where the terms ‘hair claws’, ‘hair talons’ or ‘hair spiders’ come from, all of which are synonyms.
A claw clip usually consists of two halves, each with a specific number of prongs. Both halves are held apart by springs or an elastic band, so that the prongs on the clips hold the hair securely and firmly in place.
Naturally, there are significant differences in quality. If a claw clip closes neatly and the prongs interlock without any play when closed, it is a high-quality product. With inferior claw clips, on the other hand, both halves wobble when closed or can even be slid against each other.

Which claw clips stay in place well?
The hold of a claw clip depends mainly on two factors:
- What type of fastening does the claw clip have? What material is it made of, and how strong is its tensile strength?
- Will the claw clip suit my hair type, with the right tooth size and number to meet my needs?
Most claw clips are fitted with a metal spring clasp. This presses the two parts of the claw clip together, ensuring a secure hold in the hair. The tension and lifespan of the spring clasps vary depending on their construction and quality. Our spring closures are made from high-quality metal to ensure a long service life and high quality. Should a metal spring ever break, we will of course replace it for you.

The correct size, shape and number of teeth play a key role in securing the hair effectively and achieving the desired style. As a general rule: the finer the hair, the smaller and narrower the teeth should be. For thicker hair, sturdier and longer teeth are recommended.
Which claw clips hold best?
Claw clips with elastic bands offer the best hold, as they use an elastic band instead of a spring. Thanks to their durable and secure hold, they are an effective solution for keeping hair in place. The elastic band creates a lever effect near the prongs, which strengthens the grip and ensures the hair is held securely in place.
Our claw clips, featuring high-quality springs, also provide long-lasting hold. With inferior claw clips, there is a risk that the spring – or even the entire clip – may break.
Choosing the right claw clip depends on your hair length, hair thickness and the desired hairstyle. Larger claw clips are particularly well suited to long and thick hair, as they can securely hold a larger amount of hair. Thanks to their generous size and extra stability, they ensure that the hair stays firmly in place.
For short to medium-length and fine hair, small or medium-sized claw clips are sufficient. They provide a secure hold without weighing the hair down or causing damage.

Are claw clips good for your hair?
Claw clips made from high-quality materials are particularly gentle and kind to the hair. They gently hold the hair in place and, compared to hair ties, exert less pressure on the hair, which reduces breakage and split ends.
Smoothly rounded edges and an even surface finish are essential when using claw clips to prevent friction against the hair’s surface, which can roughen and damage the hair structure.
We therefore place great importance on the materials, their origin and the manufacturing processes used in our products, to ensure that they provide a hold that is not only aesthetically pleasing but also safe and gentle on the hair.
What are organic acetate claw clips?
The term ‘organic acetate claw clips ’ is a marketing term for cellulose acetate claw clips.
In recent years, the proportion of fossil-based components in the manufacture of cellulose acetate has been successfully replaced by organic ingredients. The overall proportion of organic raw materials has thus been increased by around 7 per cent. This development is, in principle, welcome. Nevertheless, cellulose acetate claw clips are not yet a fully eco-friendly product.
Unfortunately, some retailers and online shops are misusing this technological advancement and are now labelling cellulose acetate claw clips as ‘organic acetate’ claw clips. This labelling constitutes greenwashing and is intended to deliberately mislead consumers.
The term ‘organic acetate claw clips’ suggests a completely natural and eco-friendly composition, as we would expect from organic food, for example. However, this is by no means the case for cellulose acetate based on current technology, as it still contains fossil-based raw materials.
We are convinced that, in a few years’ time, our cellulose acetate claw clips will be made from 100% organic and natural materials. However, until this is the case, we have made a conscious decision not to use the term ‘organic acetate claw clips’. We expressly reject any form of greenwashing and misleading advertising.

Are cellulose acetate claw clips compostable?
Yes, cellulose acetate claw clips are, in principle, compostable. Under certain conditions, they can biodegrade within a few months.
The composting of cellulose acetate requires specialised composting and digestion facilities. Not all standard facilities provide the conditions necessary for successful composting. For example, the temperature in these facilities must exceed 50 degrees Celsius to ensure effective decomposition of the material.
Unfortunately, there are currently only a small number of facilities in Germany capable of composting cellulose acetate. This means that the material is still, mistakenly, ending up in conventional landfill sites and is therefore not fully benefiting from its advantages as a compostable material.
We hope that further facilities for composting cellulose acetate will be brought into operation in the future. But we are already reducing the amount of waste we generate:
