Bio-Acetate

What is bio-acetate?

Bio-acetate is a neologism used in marketing to describe cellulose acetate.
In recent years, a well-known manufacturer has succeeded in replacing the proportion of fossil components in the production of cellulose acetate with additional biological components. This has increased the total proportion of biological source material by around 7%. This is a welcome development in principle, but it still does not make cellulose acetate a completely ecological product.

Unfortunately, some retailers and online stores are using this further development to label cellulose acetate as organic acetate. However, this designation is greenwashing and deliberate consumer deception.
The term organic acetate is derived from the word organic in the sense of ecological and biological and thus suggests a completely natural and ecological composition. According to the current state of the art, however, this is not the case, as cellulose acetate still contains fossil components.

We hope that cellulose acetate will one day be made entirely from ecological and natural products. As long as this is not the case, however, we deliberately refrain from using the term bio-acetate. We reject the use of organic acetate in the sense of greenwashing and dishonest marketing and expressly distance ourselves from this type of misleading advertising.
